Gjakova is a city located in the Gjakova District of western Kosovo. Around 75% of town’s population was driven out by the Serbian Army during the war (1998-1999), and much of the city’s buildings were burnt or otherwise destroyed. After the war, however, much of the inhabitants have returned and the city has largely been rebuilt. Gjakova is easily accessible from the major cities of Kosovo and from Albania.
